Gathemangal or gathemunga is newar festival in Nepal.



Gathemangal festival is celebrated each year on Shrawan Krishna Chaturdashi which is in the month of June/July.

Gathemangal or Ghantakarna Chaturdasi is a co-relatively used common term and main thing is that it is worship and offer sacrifices to demons.

Gathemangal is celebrated among Newar community and is being observed in different parts of Kathmandu Valley Popularly.

On this very special day, people usually wear iron rings on their fingers. Doing this has a belief of protecting them from the evil spirits and the demons in their life

These iron rings are originally made by the Nakarmis in newar community. Nakarmis are the Newars who traditionally work on iron equipment and make iron equipments.

On this day people get back home early and at home they hammered the three-legged nails on the doors to get away from the ghosts to house.
